13 February 2014
We have had an excellent start to the year and
all the Kauri Teachers are enjoying the lovely group of students they have for
2014.
Stationery
Thank you very much to all the students who have all their
stationery. We are well into our work and books are important for students to
get used to the routines in their class. Please talk to your child’s classroom
teacher if you do not have stationery yet as we will support as much as we can.
Uniform
All students are expected to wear uniform that complies with
the Maeroa expectations. This means NO canvas shoes, 1 pair of stud earrings,
no nail polish, no other jewellery other than a watch or a taonga (worn inside
shirt), and socks above the ankle if wearing lace up, black, leather shoes. Students who
feel the cold and need to wear something extra under their school shirt must
make sure it is not visible. The only sweatshirt to be worn is the
school polar fleece.
The school PE gear is the only option for our PE sessions.
Students cannot bring alternative clothing if they have misplaced their PE
gear. PLEASE MAKE SURE ALL THEIR UNIFORM IS CLEARLY NAMED! Your support in
helping us to maintain high standards of dress within our school is
appreciated.
Meet
the Teachers
We work very closely together as a team and we are very
proud of our students and team spirit. We hope your whole family feel a part of
the Kauri Team very quickly as we are very family orientated. To begin the year
we have organised a fun evening at school for you all. On Thursday 20 February
we welcome you all to come and join us from 5.30pm to 7pm. We will meet at the
front of the school under the trees where we will have games set up and school
PE gear for you to use. There will be a sausage sizzle available ($1.50 each) for
those who get hungry but you are welcome to bring your own picnic. Any profit
from this evening will go towards reducing our outdoor education costs during
the year.
This is a great way to get to know us, and for us to put
faces to the names of our students’ parents and family. Please return the slip
at the end of this newsletter so that we have an idea of numbers attending.
EOTC
2013
This
year we are planning day trips, with a day surf lifesaving at Mt Maunganui or
Raglan in Term 4 being booked already. As we plan events, we will let you know
as soon as we can so that you can organise yourselves with payment and time off
if you would like to join us.
Swimming
and PE
We swim every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and ALL students
are expected to participate. Please support your child to bring togs on these
days. We will be having PE / activate daily and ask that ALL students have
their school PE gear with them EVERY day. Our expectation is 100%
participation. A note from an adult MUST be given to the teacher if a student
is not able to swim or participate.
Homework
Most weeks your child WILL have homework. Every week there
will be spelling words to learn, daily reading and basic facts practice. Please
talk to your child’s teacher if there is a problem with this and we can
organise a programme to suit you and your child. Homework is generally due back
on Friday of each week.
