Week 1, Term 3

This week is Week ONE. Welcome back to Term Three! Can hardly believe where the year has gone!!  This week we welcome Mr Thornley, a new Deputy Principal to Maeroa Intermediate. Make sure you make Mr Thornley feel welcome as you see him around the school.

I hope you all had a relaxing holiday and are refreshed and ready for another term. Lots happening this term and there are only 9 weeks. Oratory is our focus for the first 3 weeks and we will also be starting our Sound / Communication Unit.

Jewel, Sage and Tegan are going to Sports Camp in Week 6 and Brooke is heading to Japan in Week 8. We have Specialised Programmes again this term in Week 7 and we will be practising for Athletics towards the end of the term.

Lots of Inter-Intermediate competitions are happening this term – Cross Country, Badminton, Rugby, Netball and Basketball. Lots of other opportunities as well – Chess competition, Kids for Kids concert, Drama and Orchestra /Band days, Oratory finals and a team Maths competition as well as Incoming Students evenings.

I hope that you are focused on achieving the goals you have set for the second half of the year and know exactly what you need to do to meet your goals. Remember to make the most of the opportunities given to you.

Our PE days this year are TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY AND FRIDAY.

You are required to wear your PE uniform for these sessions. We will also be going out for Activate on Mondays and Thursdays, which means that your PE uniform should be at school 5 days a week, every week!

Holidays - Oratory

As promised I have put the Oratory topics on their own page. Remember to be jotting down ideas throughout the holidays and in the first week back we will work on creating your speeches.

Week 10

This week is Week TEN. This week we have our annual Jump Jam competition on Wednesday. Good luck to Kristian, Ayden M and Jewel for being a part of our Kauri Team J

Goal Setting Conferences are this week on Tuesday and Thursday. School finishes early on Tuesday – you will be leaving school at 1.25pm. Please make sure you bring your report with you and your Learning Journals will be available for you to take home after your interview.

We will be having a Shared lunch on Friday. We will be discussing in class who will be bringing what so that we get a good mixture of food J

Thursday is our Mufti Day. It costs $2 and the proceeds are going towards our World Vision child and purchasing Koru flashes.

Week 9

This week is Week NINE. This week we have our annual Cross Country happening on Thursday. You have been working hard at training and I am really proud of how many of you are going to participate in Course 3 this year – way to go J

Reports come out on Friday and next week there are two days of Student Led Conferences. Please make sure that you have made a time to come and meet with me on either Tuesday or Thursday of next week.

Congratulations to our class Football team who came 3^rd equal !!! What a fantastic effort by everyone who was a part of the Football team at some stage this term – it is because of ALL of you that we came 3^rd. This is the best placing a Room 15 team has come in the lunchtime sports competition in a very long time. I am looking forward to seeing this effort repeated for the Netball competition which  will be starting shortly.

Thanks to everyone who voted for Maeroa on the Easiyo website – we came FIRST !!!

This week we are moving towards our Oratory unit with a reading aloud task that you need to be working on for Homework. You will be presenting these to the class starting on Tuesday. The details can be found on the class blog and a hard copy has been given to those who don’t have internet access.

Week 8

This week is Week EIGHT. This week we have our Science Alive evening on Monday from 7 – 8pm in the school gym. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Our last pool game for Football will be happening this week – a reminder that from here on in it is about winning and having the best possible team available – If we win this week it will be the first time in a very long time that Room 15 has made it into a semi final – GO ROOM 15 J

We also have an opportunity to participate in a Karate session on Tuesday – you MUST have your PE uniforms!

On Wednesday we have a performance from Fraser High’s Rock Band – they were awesome last year so I am looking forward to another great performance.

Week 6

This week is Week SIX. This week the Pies for our PTA fundraising will be arriving. We will be continuing our work on descriptive writing, writing up our Science experiments from a couple of weeks ago, our reading will be based around our science, we will be re-doing our Sherbet experiment to get ready for our Science evening and we will be starting our Statistics learning and getting post results from our Algebra unit.
